Thinking about eloping? Here are the answers to the most common Margaret River elopement FAQs, from packages and legal requirements to what to expect on the day.

Got Questions? We've Got Answers.

THE MARGARET RIVER REGION | WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Is This Right For Us?

What exactly is an "all-inclusive adventure elopement"?

Pretty much exactly what it sounds like: getting married on an adventure, with everything taken care of for you. It's amazing, memorable, and totally stress-free! You just have to show up (and say "I do").

How is this different to a normal wedding, or a "micro wedding"?

The main difference is scale and focus. An elopement keeps things to an intimate ceremony (up to 15 people including you two). A micro wedding or full wedding usually involves a much larger guest list and more traditional structure.

Our Margaret River elopement packages bring it back to the two most important people at the heart of it all: you two, celebrating your love in a way that feels authentically yours, not a scaled-down version of a big wedding.

Do we have to be adventurous / outdoorsy types to elope with you?

Absolutely not! Our couples come from all walks of life, and for many, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to celebrate their love somewhere epic.

We've also curated elopements at our couples' own unique accommodation, so reach out and we'll share our suggestions. We've got a wealth of local knowledge to draw on.

Can we bring guests, and how many are we allowed?

Yes! You can have up to 13 guests at your ceremony (15 including you two). A lot of couples are torn between eloping and a full wedding, and this number gives you the best of both worlds. Your most important people are there, while still keeping it intimate. Any more starts to feel like a performance rather than an elopement.

Read our full guide on choosing your guest count if you're still deciding.

Our Wild packages are perfect if you'd rather it just be the two of you, heading off on your own adventure.

Is eloping "less meaningful" than a big wedding?

We think it's more meaningful. You get to speak from the heart and celebrate in a way that's authentically, unmistakably you two, without performing for a room full of people.

If you're still weighing it up, here are more reasons couples choose to elope over having a traditional wedding.

Packages & Pricing

What's included in each package (The One / Classic / Original / Deluxe)?

Every package includes your celebrant, photography by Victoria Baker, hair & makeup, florals, and a remote Margaret River location, with higher tiers adding extras like an off-road adventure, cocktails, accommodation at 8 Paddocks, fine dining experiences, and wellness touches.

See the full package breakdown and pricing on our Services page to find the right fit for you.

What's the price range, and what does "starting from $6,990" actually get us?

Our Classic package starts at $6,990, held in one of our epic-but-accessible Margaret River locations. It includes photography by Victoria Baker, your celebrant, hair & makeup, and florals, simple, beautiful, and fully covered.

Can packages be customised or do we have to pick exactly as listed?

A big yes! We curate each elopement around the individual couple, not the other way around.

What's NOT included that we might still need to budget for?

Not all of our packages include accommodation, though we're very happy to arrange this for you. Beyond that, really the only thing you need to sort is your wedding attire. It's that easy, you just have to rock up!

Do you require a deposit, and what's the payment schedule?

Yes, a 35% deposit secures your date, with the remainder due one month before your elopement. You're welcome to chip away at the balance any time before then.

What's your cancellation / postponement / reschedule policy?

Cancellation: More than 1 month out, your booking fee (35% of the total package price) is forfeited. Less than 1 month out, the full package price is forfeited.

Postponement: We'll always do our best to find a mutually agreeable new date. More than 3 months out, 50% of the booking fee is forfeited. Within 1 month, 75% is forfeited. Unfortunately we're unable to accommodate postponements within 1 month of the date.

Is an elopement in Margaret River legally binding?

Absolutely. Your celebrant handles all the legal paperwork and makes sure everything is submitted within the right timeframe, so your Margaret River elopement is a fully legal marriage, not just a symbolic ceremony.

What legal paperwork do we need, and when?

The Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) needs to be lodged at least one month before you marry. Don't stress about the details, though. Your celebrant takes care of all of it.

Do we need to give notice of intended marriage (NOIM) before the day, and how far in advance?

Yes, the NOIM must be lodged at least 1 month before your ceremony. Your celebrant will guide you through this as part of your booking.

Do we need our own witnesses, or can you provide them?

If it's just the two of you, we'll happily act as your witnesses. If you're bringing a few guests along, you're welcome to use a couple of them instead.

Can international couples / interstate couples legally marry in Margaret River?

Yes! Australia is one of the few places in the world where international couples can marry easily, since the NOIM can be completed entirely online, wherever you're travelling from.

Do you handle the National Parks / DBCA permits for us?

Absolutely, we sort all of that. We also hold a commercial operator's licence, which lets us access places that others simply can't, and legally pour you champagne once we’re there.

Locations & Logistics

Where do elopements actually take place? Can we choose the location?

We choose most locations ourselves, drawing on years of scouting the region's most remote and beautiful spots (that would be telling if we listed them all!). We consider ourselves local experts with a wealth of Margaret River knowledge, and Lukas in particular has a lifetime of local know-how here. If you have somewhere else in mind that's special to you, we're all ears.

What happens if it rains or conditions aren't safe on the day?

A bit of drizzle doesn't worry us. We'll still get out there, umbrellas in hand! If the weather turns torrential, we'll adjust the day and use an undercover backup ceremony location. If conditions are genuinely unsafe, we'll still get you married, just with the adventure portion rescheduled.

How remote are the "hidden" locations? Is there a lot of walking/4WD involved?

Most of our locations are wonderfully remote, because we want you to feel fully immersed in nature, with varying degrees of 4WDriving involved (which we handle for you).

We do have a few more accessible spots too, better suited for guests, though even those involve a bit of adventure to reach, so come prepared for that! We always adapt the day to our couples, so don't worry if you're not used to long hikes.

What if one of us has mobility issues or can't do off-road terrain?

We can easily customise a package around our more accessible Margaret River locations. Curating the experience to suit you is what we do best.

Do you offer elopement locations outside Margaret River (Pemberton, Nannup, Yallingup, Busselton)?

Our set packages are now all based within the Margaret River region. However, we're always open to exploring a couple's own ideas! We've previously run elopements in Nannup and Pemberton, so if you have a special connection to one of these areas, we can definitely make it happen.

How far in advance do we need to book?

We book up quickly, so if you have a specific date in mind, we'd suggest reaching out around a year ahead.

Travel & Accommodation

We're flying in from interstate/overseas. Can you help plan the whole trip?

Absolutely, we have elopement packages specifically designed for couples flying in from Melbourne and Sydney, and we can also arrange car hire and accommodation for however many nights you need.

Where do we stay, and is accommodation included?

Our partner accommodation is 8 Paddocks, a luxurious set of couples-only chalets. It's included in our Deluxe package, and can be added to any other package too. If your situation is a little different, say, you're bringing kids along, we've got other recommendations for you.

Can you help with flights, car hire, or airport transfers?

Absolutely, we can organise all of that for you.

Can we turn this into a mini-moon / extend our stay?

So many of our couples do exactly this. Margaret River has so much on offer and is an incredible haven for celebration, relaxation, and adventure. Read our full Margaret River wedding guide for our favourite ways to extend your trip.

What To Expect

What does the actual day look like, start to finish?

Your day typically starts with hair & makeup in the late morning, followed by your ceremony in a remote forest or coastal spot in the early afternoon, a couple's photo shoot as you travel between a few off-road locations, sunset cocktails, and dinner at a local restaurant to close out the celebration. If you've booked accommodation with us, you'll check in beforehand and head off the next morning.

What should we wear / bring?

Bring layers! It gets surprisingly cold down south, so pack for all kinds of weather regardless of the season. For your ceremony outfit, comfortable footwear and clothing that can handle a bit of terrain works best without compromising on style. Check out our full guide on what to wear for your elopement for outfit inspiration.

Can we do hair & makeup, or bring our own artist?

Of course! We love it when our brides get creative and bring their own personal touch to the day.

How does the photography work?

The Wild Elopement Co’s co-owner Victoria Baker will be your photographer, bringing over 12 years of wedding photography experience across the South West!

Every package includes full elopement coverage. Before your day, you'll fill out a short questionnaire that will help us understand how much you’d like to be photographed. You may want some moments where you can just be. Victoria’s style is very easy-going and she’s always reading the room, so it never feels like a production. It’s more about helping you feel comfortable in front of the camera than doing stiff poses, and allowing you to fully experience the day without worrying about photos. Victoria's got this!

When do we get our photos, and how many do we get?

You'll get 250+ images in total, delivered fast: sneak peeks within 24 hours, a slideshow within 2 weeks, and your full gallery within 4 weeks at the latest. We don't hold back on the count, we just take out the dud ones! We believe in fast delivery, since you'll want something special to share your news with straight away.

Can we add a wedding album or prints afterwards?

Absolutely, your online gallery links straight to our easy-to-use print store, where you can order both. Our fine art prints and albums are truly out of this world, honestly some of the best wedding albums known to man!

Can family watch via livestream if they can't attend?

We don't offer livestream, since most of our locations don't have great phone reception (part of what makes them so special!). You're welcome to set up your own tripod if you'd like, and if all else fails, you can always film the ceremony on your phone to share with loved ones afterwards.

Inclusivity, Values & Extras

Do you perform LGBTQ+ elopements?

100% yes! We're fully inclusive and welcome all couples to elope with us. Read more about our LGBTQ+ elopement packages here.

What's your approach to sustainability / environmental impact?

We work closely with the relevant government bodies to make sure we're operating appropriately in every location, and we contribute 1% of every booking to carbon capture projects.

We also use local products and likeminded vendors to keep our footprint small, and we use natural confetti rather than "eco-friendly" confetti, since even the eco-friendly kind isn't truly leave-no-trace.

Can dietary requirements be catered for (hamper, cake, dinner)?

Absolutely, we cater for all dietary requirements, whether it's your grazing hamper, cake, or post-elopement dinner.

Can we personalise the ceremony with our own vows/traditions?

Yes, we actively encourage it! We'll guide you through personalising your ceremony with your own vows, a particular wedding tradition or family tradition, or even a brand new one you create together. Our guide to writing your own wedding vows is a great place to start.
